FARGO — Panels ornamenting Fargo City Hall could use a bit of a makeover in the eyes of the city's Arts and Culture Commission.

The arts commission is seeking proposals for new artwork for the panels located on the exterior facade of City Hall’s Commission Chambers at 225 4th St. N.

The request seeks one to three local artists, culture bearers and other creatives to create artwork for the panels based on the theme “Fargo: Past, Present and Future.”

The city first installed art on the building in 2018. The art panels are on the northeast, east and southeast sides of the building’s exterior of the Commission Chambers. Each of the three sides has four vertical panels designed to incorporate artwork, for a total of twelve panels. The selected art will be translated to vinyl, which will be installed within each panel section.

Artists may propose work for a single wall or all three walls. All proposals must present a "cohesive artistic vision" and reflect the theme.

Artists must be 18 years old and reside, work or be a student in the Fargo area. The proposals may be from established or emerging artists and students enrolled in an arts program at a college or university.

A copy of the Request for Proposals may be obtained online at FargoND.gov/work/bids-rfqs-rfps or by calling the Department of Planning and Development at 701-241-1474. Proposals must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. Friday, June 17. The city anticipates a selection will be made by the end of June, and the work will be installed no later than July 30.
